Frequently Asked Questions

Who can come to camp?
Any girls and women ages 12-28 are welcome. Women above this age range are requested to contact us at ontario@kaursunited.org for information on attending. Participants under the age of 18 require parental/guardian consent. There will be participants from various locations and different walks of life at camp, everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

I will be flying in from outside of Ontario. Can you help me out?
Kaurs United volunteers will try their best to assist campers flying in for camp. Accommodation for days outside of Camp will also be arranged, and airport pickups are available if you email us at ontario@kaursunited.org well in advance.

I have health / personal / private concerns.
Kaurs United camp is a network based on spiritual and social growth, and we believe in inclusion and empowerment. We welcome all women and girls yearning to share this experience. Please contact ontario@kaursunited.org and we will reply in confidence to assist you with any concerns.

Kaurs

Is the campsite equipped with First Aid supplies and is staff trained?
Several of Kaurs United staff members will be trained in first aid, and there will be first aid kits handy in different areas of the campsite. If any Kaur wishes to bring a travel-size first aid kit, however, she is welcome to do so.

Is there a contingency plan in place for Kaurs who are unable to pay full Camp fees?
Like numerous other non-profit organizations, Kaurs United is operated on the donations and Camp fees of its campers and supporters. The amenities and experience provided at camp, comparable to other camps around the world, is made available at a relatively very low fee. However, we are happy to offer scholarships to reduce the fees of campers in extraordinary financial need. For consideration of a scholarship, please e-mail ontario@kaursunited.org before July 31st with a write-up explaining why you would like a scholarship, and also please make a submission to the Kaurs United Library (e.g. a new poem, story, essay, piece of art, etc.). Campers flying from abroad may request reduced fees to account for airplane tickets.

I don’t know anyone who will be at Camp and may be coming alone. Yikes!
Have no fear. It is a core goal at Kaurs United Camps to unite Sikh girls and women and help them make new friends. You do not need to know anyone at Camp, and several campers have made friends within the first few days (or hours) of Camp. You will be matched up with other girls and women in your age category and will have the chance to mingle.

Kaurs

I am not Amritdhari, can not read Gurmukhi, and have little knowledge on Sikhism. Is this Camp only for girls who have all of the above?
No, with a capital “N.” Kaurs United Camp is for anyone who regards herself as a Kaur, or anyone who is interested in becoming a Kaur. You will have several opportunities to learn about Sikhism at Camp and do not need background knowledge to attend. The morning and evening darbars are made easier for campers who cannot read Gurmukhi as there is always a screen projecting English translations to Gurbani.
