I hadn’t expected it:
I didn’t know you would be there.
A hand,
Reaching through the translucent gray screen,
You stretch towards me.
It’s then when I see:
Your eyes, your eyes, I can see them.
They glow, oh, how they glow,
Lone fireflies, dancing in the late summer breeze.
You close your eyes,
And yet they still glow.

That warmth surrounds me now,
A vibrating hum,
Rhythmic, silent comfort.
The clouds dissipate like cold vapor;
I listen to the grass whisper,
Held in your luminescent gaze.
Light, it liberates me.
Light…

Your glowing eyes, they are my liberation.

Dazed and confused, I sat outside,
Knowing something was wrong

I was sitting outside of the pool, never
Aware that it was there.

Then I saw it, and I jumped in; without a
Thought – without a care.

Suddenly I began to drown, and upon my
Wrist I felt a hand.

It was the Guru guiding me, and from
Then on I swam.

At this point I was just learning, not nearly
Able to swim

But as the Guru swam alongside, I found
Support within

Suddenly Maya came along, and took over
My mind

As Maya pulled, I began to cry, and somehow got left behind

At once, the Grace of Waheguru
Came, and shined within my soul

Finally Maya let me go, and finally I felt whole.

O Sikhs of the Guru, Now is the
Time, to cross the world ocean’s tide

Use sat-Naam as your vessel and
Sat-Guru as your guide.

While soaking in a thunderous bout of hail
You’re the roof I find, protecting my sanity

While flying uncontrollably in dessert winds,
You are the iron hut, steady, stable, strong

While drowning and trying to breathe under water
You are my Saviour, my helping Hand, my Light

While burning amidst the hot fires of chaos,
You are my beautiful calm, my peaceful surrender

In the midst of insanity, broken heartedness and hate,
You are my Love. My merciful companion.

Skies lit, clearing up
& Snow began to melt
But still, He hid somewhere
& ever-alone I felt…

The sun shone, birds chirped
Spring arrived at last.
No sign of my friend,
Just silence, alas!

Slowly, the sun burned
& summer heats came through,
I burned in agony
My heart’s fire grew…

Again the summers passed,
& Fall finally rose,
As leaves dried and died,
My soul finally froze.

Oh fool, why assume

The ego grows and empowers us

We do not find God within ourselves

We have forgotten the way

We try to act the part

And cover our flaws

But it does no good

Without understanding

We are drowning in death

Being engrossed in worldly affairs

I stopped to buy some candy. The lad who sold it had such charm.
I talked with him, he seemed so glad. If I were late, it’d do no harm.
And as I left, he said to me, “I thank you, you’ve been so kind.
It’s nice to talk with folks like you. You see,” he said, “I’m blind.”
Hey Waheguruji, forgive me when I whine. I have 2 eyes, the world is mine.

Later while walking down the street, I saw a child with eyes of blue.
He stood and watched the others play. He did not know what to do.
I stopped a moment and then I said, “Why don’t you join the others, dear?”
He looked ahead without a word. And then I knew, he couldn’t hear.
Hey Waheguruji, forgive me when I whine. I have 2 ears, the world is mine.

With feet to take me where I’d go.
With eyes to see the sunset’s glow.
With ears to hear what I’d know.
